Martin Juma from Namakhele Village in Bungoma County shocked residents after he decided to dig his own grave for allegedly failing to pay a loan to One Acre Fund and a neighbor.

According to his wife Christine Juma, Martin had a loan summing up to 15000 where he owed One Acre Fund Ksh 10000 and 5000 to his neighbor whom his trees were destroyed by their son.

Juma was arrested by the police on Monday, July, 26 after the incident and was later freed. His wife asked well wishers to come in and help their family in settling the debt.

According to the Bukusu traditional customs, a mature banana stalk has to be buried and filled with soil, a sheep to be slaughtered to help in the cleansing exercise to prevent the family from being exposed to extreme ritual repercussions.
