Two families in Lugari in agony after two girls went missing

One of the girls disappeared with her school fees.

Two families in Lugari Station are undergoing a hard time following the disappearance of their two girls.

Lavender Akose and Hawa Rashid – 15 and 17 respectively – disappeared a month ago under unclear circumstances.

Mary Awinja, mother to Lavender, said the Class Eight student at Mbakalo ACK Boarding Primary School left their home on Monday, October 11, 2021, and her whereabouts are unknown.

Awinja, who sells vegetables at Lugari Station market, says she was with her daughter throughout the morning of the fateful day before Lavender left to go prepare lunch at home.

“When I came back in the evening I didn’t find her. I tried to inquire from neighbors but none of them knew of her whereabouts,” she said.

She added that her daughter disappeared with Kshs 4, 500 meant for her school fees. It is believed she was accompanied by Hawa Rashid, her long-time friend.

Hawa’s mother Saum Makongolo had gone to visit her ailing father before the news of her disappearing daughter reached her.

“I traveled on Sunday, October 10, 2021, to visit my ailing father and left my daughter with her young sibling, but on Tuesday I was shocked to receive information about her disappearance, forcing me to come back on Wednesday,” Saum said.

The agonized parents have been solely searching for their daughters to no avail.

Mautuma residents torch 3 houses after a man was stabbed, killed by armed gang

Three houses in Mautuma Ward, Lugari, were reduced to ashes by an irate mob protesting the gruesome murder of a 22-year-old man in the hands of an armed gang.

Rolex Sagwa, the deceased, is said to have been stabbed to death after the gang started beating him and his friend Edwin Jumba near Mlimani Junction while they were heading home on Thursday evening.

“We were dropped by a boda boda at Mlimani Junction where we bought chips and decided to eat as we walk back home. However, a few meters from the junction, we banged into a group of three men who were armed with clubs and knives, they attacked us without any reason,” Jumba said.

He said his friend slipped and fell as they were fleeing the attack, only for the thugs to land on him with clubs before producing a knife and stabbing him mercilessly on the neck, killing him instantly.

Sagwa’s father Kevovwe Ombuge said his son was out to get medicine for his ailing mother.

“An hour later, I was shocked to get news that my son had been attacked and murdered by a group of three people. They were armed with crude weapons. They stabbed him with a knife on the neck, “he noted.

Residents led by Harun Mburu have lamented about the rising cases of insecurity perpetrated by youths in the area.

“Youths should stop using drugs and taking the law into their own hands. When a dispute arises, you need to seek guidance and counseling instead of resorting to killing or fighting,” he said.
